The FIFA Club World Cup, UAE 2009 took place in Abu Dhabi at the Zayed Sports City and Mohammed Bin Zayed stadiums. Both stadiums required refurbishment to meet FIFA standards. 

 

What we did:

Movement Strategies was engaged by the Local Organising Committee to assess the compliance of the stadiums with the (Green) Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds and recommend the necessary enhancements.

We also helped design the Event Overlay, including the arrangement of drop-offs and pick-ups, routeing to bus parks, ticket and security lines, and fan parks.

This Major Event was the first of its kind in the UAE, where there is a tradition of free tickets and free seating. These did not apply for this FIFA event, and we helped to develop the operation plans to take account of the local culture and human behaviour. We audited the stewarding and security, emergency plans, and roles and responsibilities to help the event operate safely.

We also played a major role in supporting the operational team during the event to ensure its safe and successful outcome.
