Client: Network Rail
Stations are the gateway to the railway network, and play a key role in the travelling public’s perception of rail accessibility The intent then is to make accessible provision for all travellers, especially disabled people, older people and families with young children.
- Reviewed management arrangements for improving the accessibility and inclusivity of the rail network;
- Advised on opportunities to improve accessibility and Inclusion
- Recommended improvements policies and strategic intent in respect of accessibility and inclusivity
- Explored the level of understanding of management and staff about the facilities at Managed Stations for disabled people,
- Reviewed and made recommendations on project team structure, consultation and how accessibility and inclusion could be embedded in each station project
- Visited stations and reported findings and made recommendations for physical improvements
“Inclusive stations” is not a fixed criteria, but rather a constantly evolving philosophy. The goal of creating pleasant functional environments that can be used equally by everyone, irrespective of age, gender, belief or disability, requires a process that works towards accommodating a diverse range of users.
