January 2012 - Margaret Hickish joins Movement Strategies

This month we have been joined by Margaret Hickish, bringing a new capability to our portfolio of Inclusive Design and Accessibility. Considering the needs of customers and clients will further enhance our ability to deliver improved user experience.

Margaret was the Woman of the Year 1997 in recognition of her continuing work on equality, she has almost 20 years experience in specifying and negotiating access for disabled people to the built environment and transport.

She was a Member of Architecture and Design Scotland, and previously held a Royal Warrant as a member of the Royal Fine Arts Commission. As the First Convenor Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland she advised Scottish Ministers on disabled peoples’ access to Transport, while working closely with stakeholders to improve access to transport infrastructure. She was also a Member of CABE Inclusion by Design Group 2009-2011 and was awarded the RTPI Equality and Diversity award 2009 for ODA Inclusive Design Strategy & Standards

Margaret has particular experience in advising on access to public, sports and civic amenities, including the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, The Emirates Stadium, Unicorn Children’s Theatre, the Grand Egyptian Museum (Cairo), National Trust and Historic Scotland estates, Glasgow Central Railway Station, Madrid Law Courts, Massar Children’s Centre (Damascus), The O2 and The Scottish Parliament Building. Margaret also acted as an Expert Witness on the enquiry for the Glasgow Airport Rail Link.
