The successful outcome of any leisure venue or development is the ability to attract visitors and to provide a memorable day out. This will ensure that visitors tell their friends and family, and return themselves. The venues must also be designed to accommodate the forecast number of visitors needed to ensure financial success. If these objectives are met a good reputation can be secured and commercial benefits will follow.
The challenge for developers and architects is to ensure that venues are sized and arranged to deliver safety, comfort and a vibrant atmosphere, during both off-peak and peak days without over-specifying. This challenge becomes harder for new leisure attractions, many of which are unique, and where the forecast demand is often itself uncertain and the number of visitors per day variable.
For existing venues, operators may be seeking to introduce additional services and facilities, or to host special events and activities that were not previously envisaged. Seeking to implement an event overlay that is operable, attractive to visitors and safe is a challenge that requires careful planning and specification.
Movement Strategies undertakes venue appraisal, from the earliest stages of design development, through to the implementation of overlay for a special event. Our experience ranges from stand-alone buildings through to multi-venue masterplans at Freestyle Park in Moscow and the O2 in London.
Our team uses an analytical approach, including the use of modelling tools such as Legion, supported by a practical understanding of visitor behaviour and event operations gained through hands-on experience.
